Frequently Asked Questions

  • Functional medicine is a science-based, personalized approach that looks for the root causes of illness. Functional medicine focuses on nutrition, lifestyle, genetics, and environment to restore balance and long-term wellness. Your first appointment will be a review of your life timeline and health factors leading up to today. Targeted lab testing is utilized to help take the guess work out of why you don’t feel well. These factors will be viewed within a holistic matrix to identify which body systems are most challenged and how to proceed forward. Examples of some treatment options include dietary changes, herbal formulas, nutraceutical supplements, pharmaceuticals, physical activity, stress reduction techniques.

  • Synergy Integrative Wellness is a cash-based practice. We do not bill insurance, but we can provide you with a bill to submit to commercial insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement and lab coverage. Medicare and Medicaid do not cover functional medicine services, and will not reimburse services as out of network. Not accepting insurance allows us to provide integrative, personalized, holistic care outside of the insurance model.

  • Many clients use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to cover consultations, programs, and lab testing. We recommend checking with your HSA/FSA provider to confirm coverage for specific services.

  • A discovery call is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. You can share your story, your health challenges, and what you would like to achieve. I’ll explain how functional medicine works and how integrative practices may help support you in reaching your goal.

  • After your initial 30 minute discovery call, you can schedule a comprehensive 60 to 90 minute consultation where we will delve deeper into your life timeline, medical history, lifestyle, nutrition, and current health concerns in depth. Together, we’ll create a personalized care plan that may include lab testing, nutrition strategies, supplements, and lifestyle recommendations. The goal is to uncover underlying imbalances and provide a clear, science-based roadmap toward better health.

  • Functional medicine is helpful for a wide range of concerns, including digestive issues, weight management, fatigue, hormone imbalance, thyroid conditions, autoimmune disorders, and stress-related symptoms. Many people also choose functional medicine for general health optimization and preventive care. Remember the old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?” In today’s medical world it can be said “an ounce of prevention is worth 5 pounds of cure.”
